I’m a member of the congregation at CSMC, I help with Table Talk and occasionally Junior Church and I am on the Church Council.
Is there a women who has inspired you?
There are so many women who have inspired me, that it feels wrong to single any one of them out. As a female scientist, it’s difficult to ignore the impact that Marie Curie had on the role of women in science.
What are you proud of in your life?
Both personally and professionally: completing my PhD is something that I’m immensely proud of. Four years of hard work and a good number of tears as well as some smiles along the way culminating in a body of work referred to by scientists all over the world. Not only a scientific work, but a journey of personal development, allowing me to gain confidence in my own abilities.
What do see as the biggest change for women over the years?
Equal access to education for girls is key to empowering women, allowing them to assume decision making positions and those of responsibility and power. Access to education creates opportunities and opens doors allowing women to take control of their own lives.
What advice would you give to women today?
Don’t allow yourself to be put into a box and told what you can and can’t do. Nothing should be off limits if your will is there. Find and surround yourself with people that champion you, and most importantly believe in and champion yourself. You may not always feel that doors are open to you, and life might not always run smoothly, but the most important things is to look after yourself and your own feeling of self worth.
