A growing number of people with various disabilities use our facilities on Sundays and throughout the week. Our response is one of continuous awareness of needs, including but not restricted to the proposed redevelopment of the premises.
The building already has disabled facilities, including:
an ‘inclusive toilet’, which provides a disabled toilet, baby- changing facilities and an alarm system;
level access from outside the building into the worship area and level access from outside the building into the hall, kitchen and one meeting room (as well as the ground floor toilets), with a platform lift between the two
We already have a range of people using the premises every week, both on Sundays and on other days, including:
users of wheelchairs (electric and manual);
users of walking sticks or various walking frames and mobility aids; people with electric ride-on scooters;
young adults (and others) with learning and physical disabilities; and mothers with young children in buggies and pushchairs.
We continually review the needs of these disabled people and is in keeping with our EDI policy and we have a commitment to the JDS strategy which is implemented across the whole Methodist Church and Castle Street Methodist Church
This was approved at the Castle Street Church Council Meeting 18 March 2025
