From the ministers desk – February 2025

As February begins, we find ourselves reflecting on the many exciting things happening in our church family over the coming months. From special celebrations to opportunities for learning and fellowship, there’s so much to look forward to. One highlight on the horizon is our Church Weekend Away in March. These weekends are always such a blessing—a chance to deepen our relationships with one another, and with God. More details will be coming soon, and we hope as many of you as possible will join us.

Now, I can’t resist mentioning that February also brings the NFL Super Bowl. Paul and I love American Football, though we must confess this season has been a rough one for our teams. My Dallas Cowboys and Paul’s Tennessee Titans have both been – well, let’s just say – falling well short of Super Bowl glory this year.

Watching them struggle has been humbling, but it’s also a reminder of something profound in our spiritual lives. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, Paul writes: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Just as our teams must persevere and regroup after a challenging season, we too can trust that God’s strength carries us through our hardest moments. When life doesn’t go to plan, God’s grace is constant, steadying us and showing us the way forward.

Of course, we also recognise that for most Brits, American football isn’t exactly taken seriously. It’s an odd spectacle: the endless pauses, the outlandish commentary, and smashing into each other. Compared to a brisk 90 minutes of football (the proper kind!), it must all seem rather excessive. But perhaps there’s something for us here, too: in the pauses and preparation, we’re reminded of the value of stepping back, reflecting, and planning well—something we can all apply in our faith and our lives.
